MISSION STATEMENT

Zion Lutheran School – Touching lives of people forever through a quality education in an atmosphere of Christian love.

PHILOSOPHY OF ZION LUTHERAN SCHOOL

At Zion Lutheran School we believe and teach the doctrine of the Triune God. God the Father is our Creator.  He has made each of us unique and continues to preserve us through our entire life.  Jesus, God’s Son, is our Savior and Lord.  As Savior He lived under the Law, suffered and died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins, and rose again for our salvation.  As Lord, He rules our life and our actions are guided by what He would have us do.  The Holy Spirit, Third person of the Trinity, calls us to faith through the means of Grace (Word and Sacrament) and keeps us in the faith.  He fills us with power to be witnesses to the world in which we live.

We believe that God calls us to respond to His love through word and deed in our lives.  God commands us to be the “salt” to preserve Christian education in our society; and to prepare disciples to live and witness to our world;  to pattern our lives to reflect Jesus; to proclaim Christ’s life to all the world; to praise the Creator through thought, word and deed; and to propagate the Christian faith for future generations.

We believe that it is our responsibility as a church to “train up a child in the way that he should go” (Proverbs 22:6). We do this through our Christ-centered day school program which teaches children the basics of the academic subjects and our Lutheran Christian faith. We do this in response to God’s command to go into all the world and preach the Gospel. We approach a child’s education from the point of view that each child has unique talents and skills to be developed. We begin with each child where he is and take him as far as we can in their growth spiritually, intellectually, physically, emotionally and socially. Spiritually we encourage children to know Jesus as their personal Savior and Lord and to live out their faith in service to Him and others. Intellectually we strive to develop a child’s skills, knowledge, and abilities so he can become an active, contributing member of our society. Physically we strive to develop a child who sees his body as a temple of the Holy Spirit and seeks to maintain an active, healthy lifestyle. Emotionally we strive to develop a high level of self-esteem and an awareness of the uniqueness of all God’s children in His eyes. Socially we seek to provide opportunities where the child can learn skills of personal relationships, so  he can become a positive influence to his peers.

We believe that with the home, school, and church working together, our students will grow in their Christian faith through active participation in worship services and witnessing their faith to others. Zion students will grow in their academics through the individualized attention given by teachers and special programs such as peer tutoring. Our students will grown emotionally and socially through involvement of our parents and various church groups in the activities and advancement of our school. Zion continues to provide support for our families through Bible studies and PTL programs.

AIMS AND PURPOSES

The purpose of Zion Lutheran School is to serve as an extension of the home in the vital work of Christian Education and to carry out its functions in the total parish program of Zion Lutheran Church. Our objectives are as follows:

To lead each child to a knowledge of Jesus Christ, a knowledge of God’s will which leads to a desire to love it, and the skill needed to be an actively participating member of God’s church.

To help each child to see himself as a redeemed child of God with the obligation to develop all his abilities and talents to better serve God and His Church.

To help each child mature as a child of God and develop a Christian philosophy of life.

To provide educational opportunities in the Christian setting which fulfill or exceed the standards set by the State of Michigan for educated citizens.

To help each child develop spiritual, mental, physical, social and emotional potential.

To help each child learn how to participate and contribute to society as a Christian citizen of his community now and as an adult.

To help each child develop skills in establishing interpersonal relationships involving peers and adults, including appreciation for and acceptance of other cultures and ethnic groups.

To develop a love for learning in each child.

To assist parents in the Christian training of their children and provide support and encouragement with this task.

To reach out to the unchurched in our community and the world with the Gospel message.
